Disliked Mayor Considers Running for Governer
“Go John Go! And take the Arena with you!” -JWDRIVER
As small towns go, now and then the local paper really has nothing to report. Or like today the only thing interesting wasn’t complete yet so I don’t want to write about it yet. So, I ventured on over to the local paper of the nearest city to me: Courier Press from Evansville, Indiana.
There are approximately 100,000 residents in the city of Evansville. Their current mayor was elected on just over 13,000 votes. That’s a little fishy but not the point. Mayor Weinzapfel of Evansville is the mayor I previously wrote about that has considered taking property from a profitable downtown car dealership to build a $127 million arena using taxpayer dollars for a private college that few people outside of Evansville have heard about. This has caused a lot of debate. The majority of Evansville and southern Indiana residents think Weinzapfel’s term as mayor has been somewhat of a circus. Now, the chairman of the Weinzapfel for Mayor campaign has been quoted as saying Mr. Weinzapfel is “definitely looking at the possibility of running for governor.”
Honestly, he’s caused so much controversy I seriously doubt he would make it. Granted, it would be better than the governor we currently have, but that wouldn’t take much.
Anyway, I tried reading the reader comments however at least 4 of them were removed by site staff for being inappropriate. The rest of them had the same general theme, Evansville residents don’t want Weinzapfel as mayor, governor, or any other official position. As one reader put it , “Go John Go! And take the Arena with you!” Other readers have called him a useless moron and said he hasn’t done a thing for Evansville and probably wouldn’t for Indiana either. My favorite comment, however, was “With a delayed haircut, would the mayor look like Blago?” I thought that was funny.
In conclusion, to Indiana residents, if Weinzapfel does run for governor, please do NOT vote for him. Mitch Daniels will be out of office anyway, his time is up.
